Trying to find work in Michigan

It just so happens that the vast majority of my family lives in one of the states with the highest unemployment rates in the country. So even though I've sent out over 40 resumes since I've been back, I've not had an interview. Now, I'm getting my ducks in a row to go to a meeting at the beginning of March which would allow me to substitute teach (which I would probably be able to do 5 days a week), so I'm not without options, but I wish I had something regular... even part time.

I'm trying not to get discouraged, especially since classes start next week... and my orientation is tomorrow through Friday.

Sometimes it is difficult to remember that things happens the way they are supposed to and that it isn't necessary to control everything in life.

Business isn't going as well at the new place as Mi Amor had hoped. Traffic is minimal because it has been really windy, and people don't tend to eat outside when the wind is whipping the dirt around at skin perforating speeds.

Regardless, we are both trying to keep our chins up.

I am also setting out on a quest for better health. I would like to have another child in the next in a couple year and that requires some serious lifestyle changes. I have set a goal for myself and am going to try to propose to Mi Amor that I be rewarded with another tattoo once that goal is reached. Here's hoping he agrees! It's been almost 6 years since my last set, and I'm beginning to really miss it!

Subbing is always a great option! Though it's not quite as stable as a regular job, it would allow for flexibility if you had an exam or paper due for school. Sorry to hear business is slow. My hubby has a business also, so I know how the ebb and flow of that can be. If part of your lifestyle changes involves eating healthier, I have a friend who is currently blogging about that, if you are interested, you can check out her blog: candyisout.blogspot.com

I hope subbing works out for you. I really never liked it much. Check into federal programs, too. I worked as a teacher for federal programs such as Title One and the Job Training Partnership Act. The school districts may have information on these type of jobs. I also completed by ESL training online, but with a university in Louisiana. Best wishes!

Just had another thought! What about applying at tutoring services such as Kumon or whatever is offered in your community.

I always have trouble remembering that is isn't necessary to control things.... its so hard, especially when you feel like you have control over so little...

I found your blog through La Gringa... its so nice to find people on here going through similar trials and circumstances...

Best of luck with the job search... seems like its a worldwide struggle to find work right now.

LSLS, I have a meeting in a week which will allow me to start subbing! yay!! I started following the blog you suggested and am really enjoying it. Thanks for pointing it out for me!

Laurie, great suggestions there! I have looked just about everywhere and it still looks like subbing is my only option. It's not something I'm thrilled about because it's pretty chaotic at times, but it will let me get in my observation hours for school, and that's a great thing.

Lizzy, thank you so much :)

Andrea, I'm glad to meet you! It is nice to know there are others out there who know what you're going through... especially when it feels like there is no way anyone possibly could! :)

I loved subbing...no homework or papers to grade.... and you can read or work on homework as well!

I think I'd love it more if the kids weren't so crazy! I really don't like having to be such a hardass, but if I'm not they're out of control.

Somehow I always seem to get the "difficult" classes... you know, the kind of class the regular teachers say "oh you've got *that* class?!" about? :)
